In case you don't know, now you do. It is above and beyond the usual windows bs, backdoors, etc. One actually signs an agreement with windows to have computer snooped and shared with partners.

Apparently linux mint is the way to go, may be trying it shortly as there is some stuff about windows 8 out there too that is concerning.

Anyone try the switch? Heard 99% of programs port..

Knowing is half the battle :]
 
Windows 7 and up share a ton of data with Microsoft. If your willing to use a search engine then your not that paranoid
 
Thought 7 was safe-ish. I use Ixquick for sensitive searches. It is about citizen rights not paranoia.

@RainMotorsports , I made no complaint and think your metaphor is off. It is not obvious to everyone that information is being stolen, which is really the proper word, even though it may be legal.

I was about to download 10 and thought I would let people know that their info was not private in any way, shape, or form with this version. Last I checked citizens have a right to their property, be it information or whatever, unless they sign it away, which again is why I posted. Because one signs away their rights when agreeing to terms in 10. It is fucking insane.

Until I become famous or rich, I laughingly agree with @OfftheRails
 
To be honest, most people either care and still continue to use the product, or don't care. Unless someone is doing something very risky, there is absolutely no reason to worry.

The problem is users that don't even understand how something works. Also wanting everything for free and not expecting companies to make money using standard practices.

If a system is expected to listen for a command then a user should know the microphone is live at all times. Maybe they don't know right away that the voice is sent to a server to be processed. Buy they should be greatful since the alternative is awful battery life. This automatically warrants scary language in the EULA.

Every EULA, every warning dialog should scare the fuck out of you or its not doing its job. But I can't stand people who just get scared and run off. If youre not going to spend the time to understand why the language is there then why bother. Like Facebook messenger. Everyone complained that it wanted all these permissions. Guess how many of the whiners left Facebook installed which required all the same permissions? Microphone permissions is required to send a voice message or make a call. Gallery and camera permissions make sending and taking photos possible. What could it possibly need call log permissions for? Handling itself during incoming calls I do believe.

I'm not a huge fan of people whose information is already flooded into databases acting like they will be off the grid anytime soon. Your property taxes will give your address away for shit sakes.

I haven't looked into every detail of what's going on. I don't use cortana and I automatically assume my files are vulnerable 24/7. I don't intend to abandon software I need or features I want and hide in a corner.

I see no reason for MickeySlop to store our voices, that's just one sneaky problem, unless they are going to help the NSA or NSO.
It is my understanding that only in Windows Ultimate can this spyware be turned off.
Windows 7 and 8 have had updates to capture what you are doing - sneaky bastards aren't they?!
