KABUL, Afghanistan — A United States Army major general was killed on Tuesday by an Afghan soldier, shot at close range at a military training academy on the outskirts of Kabul, officials of the American-led coalition said Tuesday. The officer was the highest-ranking member of the American military to die in hostilities in the Afghanistan war.

The coalition officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity and would not release the name of the major general, said an unspecified number of other service members of the American-led coalition and Afghan soldiers, including a senior Afghan commander, also were shot. Their conditions were not immediately known.

I suppose these types of things are to be expected when you start training the locals. Totally sucks, but expected.

Turn that piece-of-shit land into a sheet of glass and be done with it. The world will not miss Afghanistan... or Pakistan..... or Syria. Turn them all into a sheet of glass, take any remaining resources and get some piece-of-mind.

Can't do it with Pakistan although they deserve it, they are a nuclear armed and would launch on India who is also a nuclear power. This is the second flag grade officer killed in the war on terror, I had my fingers crossed that it was Odierno or Dempsey but no such luck. A german brigadier general was also wounded. I don't understand why we are still risking our lives with a half serious mission to help these savages. War is punitive, nation building is not a military role.

Yeah but Patton was well known to be an asshole.

LOL. All three of you are correct on this point. Yes a huge sheet of glass would be preferred. After fighting the assholes in Iraq for 18 months, can we please add them into the glass blowing also. Patton would disagree about the nation building until he was blue in the face, which he possibly currently is. And yes, history points out his assholery to great lengths. In addition, with the recent blue on green shooting of the General, I don't think we can expect anything good to come of this. Although revenge is best served cold, the US typically doesn't wait that long, so stand by for updates.
