The Wife Doesn't Understand...

I've been gaming since I was old enough to reach the joystick. I started out when arcades were big and stayed through the progression - Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Bezerker, Robotron, Dragon's Lair, the entire Street Fighter series, Mortal Kombat, House of the Dead, you name it. Every quarter I ever came across went into an arcade game.

Unfortunately, computer gaming was pretty much limited to the Apple IIe at the time (God, I miss Archon!), unless you wanted to play crappy text games on the Commodore 64 (for you youngsters out there that weren't born yet - it was named "64" for it's whopping 64 Kilobytes of RAM)

Atari.. Colecovision, Sega Master, NES and the like - I played them all. And of course the modern PC games.

Being a gamer is a way of life - non gamers (especially women) do not understand this.
So, when the wife is asking me "Why are you still playing that fucking game?" at 2AM. I have to explain it to her all over again (even though she never gets it).

And now that I got my new rig and finally did some cable management (hard to tell from the pic, but it was WAY worse) - outside of getting laid, why would I want to leave? I got enough room to eat, work and game. The bathroom is about 10 feet away from me, I can stream movies and TV, order what I need online - hell, I can even get my groceries delivered... all while being comfortable.

However I still like to party, fine dine and generally get crazy.. so I can't be like "Online Guy" and lock myself away for months on end.

But sometimes, I wish she was a gamer too - then maybe she would understand the mentality.

I completely understand where your coming from having dealt with that same problem with 2- ex-wives. My gaming was not the cause of either divorce but trust me when I say if it wasn't your gaming it would be something else. Women can't kill them or shut them up to save your life but what would we do without them? If only they had an on & off switch or at least a mute button...lol : )

Amen to that! I sometimes think if women didn't have something to bitch about they wouldn't be happy at all. Thankfully, my wife doesn't complain about me gaming...much.

Edit: This reminds me of a comedian I saw who said women just can't stand to see a man relax, especially if he's just sitting there- it drives them crazy so they want to share it with you by being in your ear about it. God help us all. If the thought wasn't totally abhorrent I'd be gay and live with another man instead. ugh.

Ya see Rim you just have to aim a little lower on that one ;p The young ones don't mind. Nice man cave big guy. Did you pretty it up just for us :)
 
Ha Ha, Sid - I prettied it up for me - but thanks. I like room to spread out.. so I can remain comfortable whilst killing people, helps me relax.

I guess you can call me superstitious - Router > PC and Router > NAS are both gig with CAT6. So I like to keep those away from all the power cords and what not.. The CAT5e runs to the wife's PC, the gig switch, the Xbox, my work laptop, and the stepdaughter is on 802.11G upstairs - not worried about those at all - they get what they get... especially since I have QoS on my router giving me priority packets over everything...

I just love that they don't have a clue about networking, protocols, permissions or any of that shit.. It keeps me in total control of every device in the house, and it keeps my porn well hidden.
 
So thats the mouse that you use to shoot cams up my ass all the time....damn that thing, I hope it breaks!!! lol

Supra running to look for mouse traps...
 
Just a simple MX518 that I've had for over a year now - still going strong. Thinking about the Death Adder though.. I like the way that thing fits in my hand.
 
Nice Rim. I got the same Razer Headset. How's the sound? Looks like a SW on the floor there. I got the 7.1 Surround. I would take a picture but I have to clean it up a bit. :)

Wow! It's like you got up there and told my story tonight. I can really relate to the repeated explanations even though she never gets it. Thanks for sharing. Now I don't feel like I'm the only one dealing with this problem.

Rim nice set up ... I did not get married because of the exact same woman's habits. All she did was complain just for the sake of complaining. Stay strong bud she will capitulate soon enough.

Guerrillero, I had heard there was someone in the clan with that 3-monitor setup, but I wasn't sure who that was - nor had I actually seen that in action. That's fuckin sweet! What's the config?

I'm just saying... I've had my hopes up before after some very promising moments. And I've got the scars to prove it.

Bah! I'm being an ass very early this morning. I really hope things do work out for ya. Then you can share your secret with the rest of us! :)

Well, she knows the deal. This is, amongst other things, what I do. Besides, I don't shuck my responsibilities, I bring home the bacon, I take out the garbage and I take care of the yard. Not much she can say.. maybe that I don't do a whole lot of laundry - but that's not my dept.

She already knows that if it came down to her or my gaming - I just might be divorced... again.
 
I think they are jealous that a machine can potentially get more attention than them selves lol
Been there myself, its a no win situation unless shes a gamer :)
