Possible StarCraft 2 release this year

StarCraft 2 is currently scheduled for a release at the end of this year, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime announced today in an Activision Blizzard pre-E3 conference call.

"We're targeting an end of year release--this year--for StarCraft 2," said Morhaime of the PC strategy title. "But as always, we won't release it until it meets our standards and the expectations of our players."

The first installment of the PC sci-fi strategy trilogy will be Terrans: Wings of Liberty, featuring a Terran singleplayer campaign and full multiplayer for all races. Both multiplayer and singleplayer will be expanded by Zerg: Heart of the Swarm and Protoss: Legacy of the Void, to come later and potentially years apart.

A closed beta of StarCraft 2--currently accepting signups--is set to begin this summer.
 
Yeah, my son has been waiting for this since he was like 8 years old. He is 16 now! They keep promising and not delivering on Starcraft.
 
They'll deliver this time.

Gameplay videos were shown months ago... they should be approaching beta by now...
 
I would think by now the game would be so incredable that nothing could even come close to it. That's it it really does come out.
 
Actually, I don't think they really put much work into SC2 before the beginning of 2008 possibly... whatever they might have said before. At most, I think it was a bunch of ideas on somebody's desk(top?)...

I'm more interested in how Diablo 3 is going to turn out than SC2 to be honest. Never liked SC much. I know, I'm odd. Everyone seems to cream themselves quite a bit (multiple orgasms o_0?) when the name is mentioned.

I much preferred Total Annihilation before, and I'm sure I'll like the "other" franchise aka Supreme Commander (SupCom 2 coming up sometime in the close future hopefully) better, as SC2 will really be SC1 with better graphics and different/more units etc... much as the whole "Red Alert" series.
 
Well you not the only one. I liked playing Diablo 2 more than I did StarCraft.
 
If starcraft 2 has an editor like warcraft 3 did, the possible custom games are nearly endless
 
StarCraft was my favorite game of all-time. No FPS comes close to it. Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction was a close second. I love the amount of custom maps they had for WC3 and SC.
