I use make this Ruger bolt at my old job. Along with carrier assemblies, firing pins, firing pin retaining pins, flash hiders, silencers, cocking handles, extractor pins & plungers, choke tubes, magazine release pivot screws, gas tubes, plugs & regulators, site bases, bolts, barrels, rail mounts, barrel bushings, charging handles, breech bolt assemblies, barrel supports, operating rods, mounts for night vision scopes, forearm assemblies, trigger & receiver components.

I don't know what that is... I think its a rotating firing pin but don't actually know.
 
This is the firing pin that goes into that

The pin goes into the bolt then into a carrier that goes into a AR15.

I'm with you. I knew it was part of the carrier I didn't know that's actually defined as the bolt. I have never assembled a semi of any kind or an AR platform before and the only bolt assemblies I have aren't quite like that. I am not an enthusiast and hand guns are also quite different.

So I was right that's the thing that rotates minus the pin, right? I also thought it was an AR piece but wasn't sure.
 
doesnt rotate. goes in one way . there is a nipple on the bolt that ejects rounds out of ejection port. only thing that rotates would be the 3 gas rings
 
my browning bolt action rotates to lock into the chamber, i always thought the ar 15 platform did the same

Thats where I am confused. Looking it up the AR-15, M16, M4 and several other related designs even the AK47 is listed as utilizing a rotating bolt and the design is somewhat in your face as well. Id normally trust a soldier like snake to know better than me but perhaps they had him building too many trebuchets while he was away from racing with me :p
 
Not a weapons expert. Trebuchets are cooler then m4/16s. I know how to disassemble, clean, assemble, and pull the trigger till it goes click(then change the barrel and put some more brass to the grass)!
I know about the bare minimum about weapons systems, however, I do know where to look/reference should I need to know that information.
 
Former high-speed/low-drag weapons expert here,
I don't recommend barrel changes on an M4/M16 and I don't think the unit armorer would either. However, for the M249 and M240B, I highly recommend a barrel change every 10 minutes using a sustained rate of fire.
