My PC was built about 4 years ago, and was actually a gift from my little brother when he moved over seas for work.

i5-2500k @3.3GHz
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8P67 LE Rev X.0X
AMD Radeon HD 6900 (6950 i think...) 2GB
8g RAM (not sure the maker/speed without going to look)
4 different various drives (250gb ssd, 2tb hdd, 1tb hdd, 500gb hdd)

Things work and run just fine, well until about the last month. I've had some issues trying to open Warcraft. Generally I can launch the game on my main screen and then cursor over to the other screen and do stuff in chrome while it loads up. Well Chrome would start to become unresponsive, and then so would WoW (and never finish loading). At this point I would try and ctrl+alt+delete, but to no avail. The screen would eventually go blank and a window would pop open saying "The logon process was unable to display the security and logon options when ctrl+alt_delete was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch." I repaired WoW and haven't really noticed the incident again, but I have had the game crash on me at least twice in the last 2 weeks saying it could not reference memory blah blah. I've also received the following BSoD once (last week, before I repaired BF4 and WoW):

I came here first before diving in too much with google and all, but I was curious if anyone had any opinions on might be causing the issue? BF4 has had some times where I would load into a game and get only 15 fps, compare that to the usual 50+ and it's made me really sad.

Having an older build, I've been toying with the idea of a new build, however I wouldn't mind being able to put off a new build with trying to just address this issue in some fashion. I don't think there's really an issue with the graphics card, the disk drives shouldn't be failing, and I can't say I've noticed anything from the power supply... so im leaning towards the RAM (again I've gotten an error saying it couldn't reference). Any thoughts?

I would upgrade your vid card. You can still get away with ram i think (as long as it's like 1600mhz or more) And I would consider upgrading slight higher from 2500K

Oh and that could be your ram doing that.

the specs should be fine for wow on ultra all day long bf4 maybe med I know that's not what you were asking just putting it out there. its possible the ram is taking a shit or might just need reseated. what OS are you running? possible updates you missed that could be causing the issue. im no pro just throwin a few out there to try

I run both on ultra without any problems. OS is win 64 Home Premium. Yeah I was wondering if it was the ram... which would be the cheaper fix... but a graphics card wouldnt be bad either since I might get one that runs cooler/isn't as loud at 40%... 30% and this one is pretty quiet, but much more and it revs up...

The one shown in the picture isn't a normal bsod for ram. Though with memory issue anything is game. It's a pretty rare occurrence and it has to do with thread scheduling on a really low level.

Also worth noting that which you describe is not an OS. That could be Vista or 7 :p

If you haven't done a full wipe of the system and installed the latest drivers for everything then I wouldn't start throwing parts at it. This can be a serious hardware issue or a simple software issue.

well shit i thought i hit 7. >< its been along week, im tired of dragging PCs through the damn snow and ice cause no one else can seem to do that part of their job.

Well reinstalled graphic drivers last night and things seemed okay... got home and loaded up a game, then bam, same BSoD within 5 minutes. Ugh... well Heroes of the Storm and Skyrim seem to run okay at least... i guess that's something while I try and figure this shit out. Time to start backing everything up and moving it to other drives...

When I tweak my settings I can play BF4 with 60fps. Good enough for me I guess, I don't need the eye candy for video games.

I-7 Intel CPU 2600k 3.4 GHZ
1155 Intel Motherboard
16G Ram
EVGA Nvidia GTX 570 HD / 2560MB GDDR5

It is old, but works well for all the shit I got to do for school, life, and video games.

Have you tested your RAM with memtest or anything?

I havent done memtest yet but did the window diagnosis twice with no issue. I tried to log on to WoW first thing this morning to check something before running off for work and it BSoDed on me again. This time the display went black, and then a bunch of streaked colors fragemented across the screens. Not this bad, but similar thing... which makes me wonder if it isn't the graphics card after all... ><

There's usually just 2 things that cause that -the memory or a failing vid card. It could also be the PSU, which is easy enough to test but that's less likely. If Win memory testing didn't find any errors then you need to RMA or replace that video card..

I have another card of unknown type that I might try pulling out of the machine. If I could get logged on to it, I would be able to see the system specs and know what all is there...
Well maybe I can find a drive that still has windows on it and throw it in there to boot off of and check that way... hum... worst case, it has 8-16 gigs or ram in it i could swap out, i just dont know what processor is in it. There's a small chance it's an i7... in which case id evaluate the whole build and maybe just replace my current set up with it... I'll keep looking and post later tonight. I appreciate the input, i really do!

Take it outside and blow the dust out well. Push the memory and all videocards in, not too hard, but make sure everything is attached well.

its been dusted but I didn't think about just reseating it

Run the memory test on it and if it passes that, run the furmark test on it. That'll put a load on your gpu & psu.

When my psu was dying my system would randomly reboot in games or whenever the gpu was under load.

Might as well get a new video card and go from there. Do a clean install of Win 7. Then we can move on to memory and what not. That i5 is still a great chip. No reason to upgrade unless you want an i7. In that case get a new cpu and motherboard.

I just swapped out the memory with another build I had down here with crossfired 5750. I grabbed the RAM because when I started things up this morning, things didn't seem to load at the desktop level. Short cuts could be single clicked and selected, but double click didn't get me anywhere. I could open the start menu (via keyboard) but the icons there were just blank, and the taskbar icons didn't launch anything either. The computer would have been turned on for at least 20 minutes as I went to go shower, so I wasn't just overzealous trying to open everything.

So since I swapped the RAM, I'm keeping an eye on things. Over the last hour things seems to be working well and as they should. A graphics card is still a possibility of an issue, and at the very least it is an older card so I'm going to keep my eyes open for what to get next and start saving for that. In the mean time, I'll get to backing things up over the next week in case I do a clean install soon.

or... maybe not fixed... This was a few mintues ago, so it went most all day without any issue. =/

Well I compared my current gpu to the 970 (i know things aren't set in stone here) and it looks like the decibels aren't too far off from one another.

So okay, I may be sold on getting the card soon, but the question is then. Is that really what my problem is? I got this error this morning before work... I tried to grab a cap with the snipping tool and got the error below that there wasn't enough free memory. If that's the case, is it possible there's an issue with the slot itself on the mobo? still not turning up any errors testing the RAM.

I know on my old motherboard from 4+ years ago that I had my video card slot start dieing on me. Had been playing 2142 with no problems and then had to start lowering and lowering my graphic settings for it to work. I thought at first it was my video card. So, I replaced it (bough a new one). Still had the problem. Realized that my video card slot then was going down the drain on me. Replaced the mobo, and all problems were solved.
