Looks like a great build - only one thing, your not going to need a 1000W PSU. I would get 750-800, not only do you save some money, but 1000K is excess unless your running quad SLI/CrossfireX.

Yeah basically the same thing I have aside from being dual GTX 260's and an 850W PS. The only other thing I would recommend is an aftermarket cooler unless you have no intentions whatsoever of OC'ing. This will more than enough for anything currently out there and give you a couple of years of "future proofing".

From what I have read the FTW series was an FTL. (At least I think it was this card, could have been a mobo with the FTW tag line). I would do a little searching for reviews on HOCP, Toms HW, and a few others. I could be totally wrong, but I do recall hearing that the FTW series was an FTL.

Sli just for show; not much gain per$. I would go with one good vid card; I went with GTX295

Just get the vanilla edition of GTX 275 and overclock it to FTW speeds with EVGA Precision. The FTW edition is exactly the same... they just put the clocks higher which you can do yourself, for free.

As far as SLI goes, you might wanna think about that second GTX 275... The benefits of SLI are a bit iffy, and imo it's just not worth it. I think you'd be better off in most situations with a single GTX 285 than your current idea, and would notice little difference from your second GTX 275 in most games.

I'd say just get one GTX 275 to begin with (or a GTX 285 if you want), and if you're dissatisfied (which I think would be highly unlikely IMO) then get a 2nd one. IMO SLI is kind of FTL on both Nvidia and ATI's offerings.

Also, I personally swear by DFI mobos... but Asus should be just fine.

Also, 700-800w should be fine... 1000w is a bit of an overkill like Soulzz said. I recommend Corsair for PSUs so your choice is excellent.

Personally, I'd get Mushkin memory, but it's personal preference... Corsair / OCZ / Mushkin / Kingston all have excellent models...

What I would do is use just one GTX285 rather than 2 GTX275s. I have Tri-SLi GTX285s and let me tell you, GIGANTIC waste of money. I tested all the configurations from, single, dual, and tri. The gains are minimal. The worst part is buying a game and finding out that it doesnt support SLi (GTAIV).

I would get Mushkin ram as well. They have the lowest latency DDR3 sticks on the market I believe (and its cheap).

I gotta disagree and say that SLI definitely makes a difference in games that support it, which include 2142. When I ran 8800GT's I went from 60 FPS with one to around 90 with 2 in SLI. I also would notice the difference when I updated drivers and it flipped SLI off. Things were just laggier in L4D, GRID, CoD4, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Mass Effect. Basically I'm saying the shit works, check any benchmarks.

Here is a summary of a benchmarks from a bunch of different games from Toms Hardware:

Ok lemme say a lil more about this.

I didnt just randomly come to that video card. Everywhere ive looked, the 275 FTW edition was specially mentioned because its a mix of the 265 and the 285. It has all the core components of the 285, with a high close speed all around than the 285, but less ram. When SLI'd, two 275's perform better than one 285 for cheaper. All the reviews i looked at trash talked the 280-295 as being over priced and not worth it.

I chose the power supply because it was said you should have 550 watts for ONE 275. I wasnt sure if that equated directly to 550+550 and figured the 1000 watt would cover it since its secretly rated for like 1500 but they conservatively rated it. Plus i figured in the future instead of getting a better vid card off the bat i could try out tripple SLI for shits and giggles. I also run like 4 or 5 hard drives, plus two externals and wanted to make sure I had the juice to keep things runnin in good order.

As far as the aftermarket cooler, definitely. Im torn between a good fan or water cooling. My room stays pretty hot so i wonder if watercooling might work better since air cooling isnt as good when the ambient temps are high.

The ram you guys mentioned are interesting. Ive never heard of them so I will definitely check it out. It was weird, on new egg it looked like the lower the latency the cheaper the price...so i was startin to think maybe the ratings went backwards when i wasnt lookin one day; o

I would say just a good fan, water cooling takes constant maintenance which is annoying to me, but if you like fiddling with comps the go for it.

If you need a aftermarket; I used a Coolmaster V8 for about a month then watercooled. Deployment your right when it comes to fucking around; drain everyting and putting everything back in...pain in the ass.

Hey bot, was wondering, do you have an Ibuypower.com PC?
[/quote1251626767]

Heh kinda random but no i dont. I build all my own pcs. Only one I have ever bought was a laptop from dell for when i went overseas.

But the last time i built one was 2005 and its showing its age. its an Athlon 64 x2 4400+ with a 8800 gs vid card

Ah, just wondering. I have a ASUS motherboard too. Just wondering if you had any problems.

another thing to consider is a Killer K1 card...my friend has one on his desktop and it works wonders with getting rid of lag

Are you kidding? That Killer card imo is the largest piece of shit you can buy for your computer...

No offense, but the milisecond of ping that it's going to save and the 2% cpu are just not worth the money imo...

Bot, imo get one 275 FTW and see how you like it. You might never want to buy another for SLI... I have a 260 overclocked and it works fine for most stuff at 1920x1080x4aax16af at highest. And the 275 is even better.

The only two games you might have problems with are Crysis (+Warhead) and Stalker: Clear Sky. Those have some graphical features that just suck performance like Soulzz does Fast's pole. JK lol.

Anyway, if you're not going to be playing Crysis or Stalker: Clear Sky with all the eye-candy turned on, I think you'll be much more than fine with one 275...

P.S. for power consumption (and random benchmarks including stalker: clear sky and its gloriously slow framerates) check this: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/944/12/

I'm guessing if you add another card for SLI, the power usage of your computer won't exceed 550watts at most.

IMO, you should be fine with a 700w PSU for SLI and even a 500W PSU for non-SLI... but if you wanna have room for future expansion or very high overclocking (CPU starts sucking major W when overclocked high), get a higher-rated one...

As far as cooling goes, I'd highly recommend the Prolimatech Megahalems. It's easy to assemble, secure, and does fantastic cooling. Mine's running 1-2C higher than the room temp at idle and 15c than room temp under full load-that means for me it runs 26C idle and 43C under load, and for 50-60 bucks it's a good deal.

Well i made my order today! I took a few of you guys' suggestions.

Final build was:

Motherboard: ASUS P6TD Deluxe(just became available again this morning)

CPU: Intel i7 920
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202[/link]

CPU Heatsink:
Thermalright CoGage True Spirit
[link]http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9403/cpu-tri-62/Thermalright_CoGage_True_Spirit_4-Heatpipe_Core_i7_CPU_Cooler.html?tl=g48c369s757&id=wZRLefhH&mv_pc=9960[/link] because of the roundup i found here [link]http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/07/23/intel_core_i7_heatsink_roundup_q309/8[/link]

RAM: Mushkin 6gb ram(3x2) DDR 3 1600 (PC3 12800)
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226050[/link]

Video Card: EVGA GeForce 275 gtx FTW edition (just one, ill SLI later)
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007[/link]

Case: NZXT Lexa Blackline
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146038[/link]

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-1000x 1000w
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007 [/link]

DVD/RW:
Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD SATA
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030[/link]

And i picked up a couple noiseblocker fans to replace the default ones that come with my case. Good CFM movement with relatively low db ratings.

Ill be pickin up a HD soon i think i got my eyes set on a 1 tb WD, and ill move my 300gb raptor over from my old box. Only tough one now is finding a good monitor for gaming. I was lookin at the ASUS series 23-24 inchers but i hear conflicting reviews. Id love to find a monitor that is 1920x1200 native, 2ms response time, good contrast ratio, and simply doesnt suck for a decent price (<$300)

edit:

Shit i just saw somewhere that this PSU is too long for the case. I hope they cancel my order. Think Ill just end up going with the
Antec 900
[link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021[/link]

man that first case u got is ugly imo lol
i would just go with the corsair 750 or 850 watt psus, theyre 80+ silver certified :D probably too late though

intel's also coming out with new processors in like a week, but i think they're mostly lower than the 920, so probably wouldn't want to downgrade

only part that we share is the dvd burner haha, that sony is a good drive. (I bought if for $23 with free shipping though, man that things gone up in price)

HEY i love that case:D To each their own i guess:p Id rather have the 1000 though cuz i have so much shit attatched. i had 6 hard drives in here and will most likely SLI at some point so Id rather feel safe.

And as far as that dvd drive goes heh...i just randomly picked it cuz it had a decent rating and was cheap. As i was ordering i realized SHIT i need a dvd drive!
