My long planned server upgrade has arrived.

I ordered a pair of 2TB drives on 16 March around 3PM. They showed up before noon today (18 March). I unpacked and put them into my server. I'm currently formatting the drives and expect them to be ready for action in a few hours. I'm also going to do maintenance on the server and move the swap-file back to C:\ and then either share D:\, at least temporarily.

It's also the perfect time to change out parts for my main. I'll be pulling the WD Caviar SE16 320GB drive and replacing it with my third WD Raptor 150GB. Since my OS & programs are on the Caviar SE16, I'll reinstall Win 7 Pro x64.

Why not just image the Caviar so you don't have to reinstall the OS and your programs, it would save you an assload of time.

A few reasons...
-I'm using 250GB of 298GB.
-I've been running this install for quite a while now. It's time to start over.
-Better file isolation.

I'll move the current contents of E:\ to the new 2TB drives, save what I need from C:\, and start over. By this time tomorrow, my setup will be as follows:

[150GB] C:\ -- OS & primary programs
[150GB] D:\ -- Games
[150GB] E:\ -- Scratch disk (for torrents etc.)
[1000GB] F:\ -- Large file storage or something
U:\ -- USB-attached DVD burner
V:\ -- Virtual optical drive
[80GB] X:\ -- Remote temporary-files drive
[2000GB] Y:\ -- Remote large file storage
[320GB] Z:\ -- Remote music

Ah, I see. Looks like you've got a much better organization chart for where everything will go now along with the new drives. That should help tremendously.

Up & running. Decently fast, too. Faster than my old 7200RPM IDE drive.

I moved the contents of E:\ onto Y:\. F:\ now has a copy of my Steam directory. C:\ will be analyzed and cleaned.

Looks like local transfer is faster but oh well. I'm happy enough with 70-75 MB/s via network.

I just installed a new drive on mine today. Not quite as big but will be all I need on the PC.

Well I've run into a couple issues with installing WIndows 7. Bleh. I'm going to bed. I'll figure out this shit in the morning.

Duke: a 640GB drive? That's so tiny! :P

Hey, I have a 120 GB SSD!!! Lay off biatch :D.

Then again, if I had a 1 TB SSD, HDD, w/e, I would only use 15% max. I'm extremely paranoid about the space I'm using on storage :(.

Alright, I'm back up and running again.

Added the 320GB drive and it's mirroring Z:\. That's my music drive (it's got other crap on it atm, but I'll clean that up shortly)

Here's the current drive setup. I've still got plenty of programs to install on C:\ and D:\ now has my Steam files. E:\ is prepared to torrenting and F:\ needs to be cleaned up.

Also, I have pictures of my computers. I'm uploading those now.

My main PC:

Top three drives are WD Raptor 150GB SATA drives.
Bottom drive is a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA drive.

Top two drives are Maxtor 80GB IDE drives.
Middle two drives are WD Caviar Blue/SE16 320GB SATA drives.
Bottom two drives are Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB SATA drives.

I used to have an Antec 900. Now I have a Cooler Master HAF-X :).

LOL!! Bob u a funny man! Heck I can't even fill up a 320GB HD. But if I eventually need to go higher then there will be another day! Impressive set up you got there Bob. Nice job!

My first impression was, "aww--it's a baby hard drive!" :-P

Hahahahah! Well my little babies add up to over 1 TB.

I've never had any experience with setting up a Server. I think that would be a neat thing to do. Do you use yours strictly for personal use and just mainly for storage or what?

Personal use. I store pornz, warez, musicz, moviez, and other thingz. The X3210 box is basically a NAS (network attached storage). I like mounting shared drives like that; it makes them very easy to use.
