I have a 2-3 year old HP DV8000 with a 17" screen notebook. It worked good and WAS top of the line. Its a POS now. I cant fly or drive or ride without it locking up. Im looking to either get a new one (desktop or notebook) or just gut this one and make it like new again. Any suggestions.

Specs:

Windows XP Media Center
Intel Centrino Duo T2300 @1.66GHz
1Gb of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 256 MB

Thanks

i think the CPU is a problem as well as ram as well as vid card lol

I think soulzz is the cure wait till he gets this. He can help you out.

do NOT buy a laptop unless for some crazy reason youre either rich or are on the road so much that you simply wouldnt have time to use a desktop. You end up spending probably twice as much for the same level of tech.

He'll be getting it within 2-3 weeks :).

Did you send him a newegg parts list?

That's what I'd do...

;-D

Anyway... as for the poll - I've heard of some pretty crappy comps running 2142... or trying to anyway :-D

I remember something about an Athlon XP... the socket A ones... with an AGP FX 5200...

I'm sure it runs fine on low settings/low res.

Yup. Confirmed all the parts with him and emailed him the parts I chose. He'll be one happy camper in about 2 weeks :D.

Hell, Evil's comp, my old one, is P4. 2.6 dual core with AGP geforce 7800...and it sux ass, its like 5 years old, if not more...it still runs 2142 on low/med settings...I am on it right now(Killa), but it's got my old 20,1" monitor...Woot, looks so small though... LOL 001

7800 isn't bad... depends on which edition though.

<5/6/7>200 is bad... very bad.

I personally don't think I'll ever be able to go back to anything less than 24'' for gaming... I'm way spoiled now.

Ok well the here's what were gonna roll with.

What do yall think, I dont really care but it might make yall feel better if you think I do.

I tried to fit his budget of 1500. He wanted this system to be able to play ARMA2 on decent settings. He doesn't want a state-of-the-art machine, just something that will play current games with ease :).

I have a Intel X6800 I will part with if you want a bad ass Core 2; I don't know about the 64bit Vista heard some problems getting drivers for things

I've been on 64-bit Vista for a good year, only had one issue with it, and that was with a program I never used. :).

No net yet. The angels haven't descended down from heaven with a great treasure of ArmA2 yet.

It should be out in the next month or so.
