In the morning we will be upgrading our oldest server from Windows Server 2003 to 2008r2. As well as providing minor updates to teamspeak 3 and procon. All services dependent on this server will be down during the morning. TS3 will be up and down several times during this maintenance. Just stay off it until its back up.

Teamspeak
We dropped our port number for teamspeak back in 2013 but left a work around in place to still connect to it via the port number. This is the final warning to remove port 6200 or :6200 from the bookmark. Most people have wiped or built new machines since then. So hopefully this will impact almost no one. The address is just voice.tbgclan.com no port number.

Same as we went through this during Hurricane Sandy, connecting to server 2008 from a windows machine is a bit different than server 2003. Help is provided in this thread from 2012 http://www.tbgclan.com/threads/remote-desktop-server-2008-instructions.19218/

Why
Server 2003 is end of life. We also have been having numerous issues with this server. Services that are supposed to start on reboot such as Teamspeak have been known to fail. Even worse, its a known scenario that if we install .NET 4.0 on the server it permanently breaks services. The cause is unknown and its not normal. However procon currently requires 3.5 and is constantly upping the requirement. So to prevent this from being an issue in the future we mind as well upgrade ahead of time.

I don't expect much to change. I do hope the reliability improves. But it is unknown how the OS and this particular server is impacting reliability.

Alright after the muligan, procon is up between reboots. Cleaning up the Teamspeak install and setting it up as a service. Probably 2 or 3 reboots to go for testing purposes.

Outage has come to a completion. Server definitely seems a lot more responsive when managing procon. Memory usage is probably a bit higher. But no worries.

Sorry it took so long. Getting TS3 to run as a service was a bit tricky as the old method doesnt work anymore apparently.

Perhaps its time to take it out back and shoot it.
