looking to get a new monitor, $300 budget but would rather spend under then that, i currently have a 21.5" samsung tv that i use to play on its about 2-3 years old, and its 720p.

now my question is do you notice a big difference if you buy a 1080p monitor? or will the games look about the same? also what are some monitors you recommend?

You won't notice a MAJOR difference between your 720p vs a 1080p on that size, depending on your graphics settings (medium and below) and how close you are. As far as graphics quality, a computer monitor is best...as far as bang for your buck, and SIZE for your buck (ahem)...TVs are the best. If I were you, and on your $300 budget, I would look @ at Samsung 25"-30" 1080p TV...

id rather not go over 24" any thing more then that is hard to look at, i sit about 30" away from the screen.. i was looking at a couple asus monitors the other day, they all had great reviews. the current tv i use seems dull, i was at a friends house and there monitor looked crystal clear.

Go for a 120hz monitor if you can (or 144 in the case of the Asus). The clarity of the game will astound, as long as you have the hardware to push a good frame rate at 120hz.

I'd get a 27" for sure. It makes a huge difference between the size of a 24" and a 27". And I don't know about others, but I see a big fucking difference between 720 and 1080p, much better clarity, sharpness, color saturation, everything. Here's a nice one for $239 great price Acer G276HLDbd Black 27" 6ms (GTG) Widescreen LED Monitor 300 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (3000:1) - Newegg.com. Here's another good one, 27" and the stand adjusts for height tilt and swivel. Acer B273Hbmidhz Black 27" 5ms HDMI Swivel & Height Adjustable Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ACM 80000:1(1000:1) Built-in Speakers & USB - Newegg.com

More than anything though, go see one in person the size is perfect for gaming. :)

as you can see 1080 is a big difference in resolution provided you are able to optimally run games with it. If you can shoot for a 120 hz monitor.
Here is one for around $199.99 Acer GD235HZbid Black / Orange 23.6" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen 1080p NVIDIA LCD 120Hz 3D Monitor 300 cd/m2 ACM 80000:1 - Newegg.com
Not sure how good it is though...

i have a gtx680 so i dont think ill have any problems running anything in high resolution?

Here's the chart I essentially always use.

Basic premise being biggest gains for the money. I'd personally go for a higher resolution panel before I'd go for 120hz.
