Making Videos, On a Budget Edition

Let's say I was a nerd with, for instance, 1.5 TB of gaming footage, and I wanted to edit it and make lots of cheesy 1980s style montages of Battlefield Hardline feats of strength...

Anyone have suggestions on editing software that is as close to free as is possible without DMCA violations, piracy, or the feds serving a warrant?
