Everyone who owns guns, supports gun rights, or looks forward to owning firearms, we had a HUGE victory today! The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 overturning a Chicago ban on firearms that was obviously unconstitutional at it denied citizens their god-given right to defend themselves, their family, and their property. That means that it affects the whole country, repealing any and ALL firearms bans in the entire United States of America! This does not deny local and state governments from regulating firearms; it just prevents the complete ban of weapons in any municipality. The stories from Fox and CNN are linked below:

The ruling also invalidates a bunch of other smaller state restrictions and requirements. Huge!

Well I got my Tot'in papers. Glad those Chicago peps will be able to defend themselves.

The city of Chicago has an ordinance for that person to have that firearm registered within the city if they live there. If a person has a gun that is not registered in their possession..that is illegal.

Many people sure like to twist them words around don't they. Reads pretty straight forward to me.

well regulated militia = god given right to own handguns? Don't remember any burning bushes on the Constitution...

It doesn't take a nobel winner to see that muzzle loaders of 1783 and Glock 19 of 2010 are a little bit different and maybe the laws should be too. I don't blame big cites for trying to do something about handgun violence. I do remember something written before the Heston amendment about Domestic Tranquility and General Welfare...

I still don't see what pistols are going to do against creeping tyranny and socialism...eh what do I know

What the hell do burning bushes have to do with gun rights? Anyways, it doesn't make sense that only the criminals have guns and not those who would use them to protect themselves and their families. A HUGE majority, somwehere in the realm of 80-90% of all crimes committed with firearms are done so with illegal and unregistered weapons in the first place. Legal weapon owners use their firearms for fun and for defense. Who in the hell drives out to a store, purchases a handgun, registers it in their name, and then goes around robbing banks and shooting people? You can get an untraceable weapon from the right corner for no more than 200-300 bucks.

I think I know what the burning bushes have to do with it, if not, I'm sorry for this. It might have something to do with the god-given part? I don't mean to slam your religious beliefs, but god is not mentioned in the constitution. The founding fathers themselves were actually trying to steer away from religion. But that's my opinion. If that's not what Virgo is trying to get to, then again sorry for posting.

Given rights is in reference of what rights we are given since the beginning of this country.

Amendment 2 - Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

oh god lol
Am I the only one who doesn't like this ruling?

possibly-

Just for all of you, I grew up in Indonesia- spent 16 years there- In Indonesia for those of you who are unaware the only people who had or allowed to carry was the military and sometimes police. People had no rights- this allowed the police and military to charge people for there protective services, you had to quite literally promise payment for police to come out and settle a dispute. It was not uncommon to be robbed by armed men (police/military).

This gross unbalance also allowed the Indonesian government to decline Papua (Irian Jaya) its promised independence in the year 2000 (an agreement that was signed by the US among others). And when I say decline I mean execution of 23 local government freedom advocates at supposed peace talks.

So when I start living in the US and see motherfucking Americans trying to throw away their rights- It reminds me of 5 of my friends thinking that they where on their way to peace talks only to get their fucking heads blown off. I wondered daily as I passed their graves on the way to school, if they had just had some guns maybe they would've had a chance to actually sit down and work out a peaceful solution.

Cause the TRUTH is, if your enemy has a gun- and you don't the only thing thats going to happen is you dying wishing you had a gun.

Wow that's some powerful shit right there! Nice write druinfly. Life would turn into a story from Half life 2 with no Freeman :(

yeah I was referring to:
"denied citizens their god-given right to defend themselves"
in the original post. God didn't sign the Constitution.

The old argument about "outlawing guns so only outlaws have guns" always leaves out the police, who always have guns. And every outlaw has to have the gun first before he becomes an outlaw.

How can any gun in this country be completely unregistered? Are they buying from a manufacturer? There are over 30,000 handgun murders in this country every year. Are all of those guns stolen, or are they obtained from a stream of "law abiding citizens" who sell them? They can go to any gun show and buy a gun with no background check.

If you really wanted to eliminate gun crime you would ban their manufacture and not make sure everyone has them. I wasn't aware that the bill of rights were ranked in according to how important or powerful they are. Too many people inject their personal biases into an event which occurred over 2 centuries ago. Clue to the guys who think the whole world is made up of only liberals and conservatives. I happen to own several guns and do not belong to any political party. I am a combat veteran and support gun rights AND gun control when they make sense. If you want to paint someone with a giant political brush because of their stand on ONE issue, then it is you who are shifting the conversation.

I'm not disagreeing. But thank you virgo, that's what I was trying to get at.

BAN the manufacture of weapons? Are you fucking serious? Who the fuck would you vote for, Hitler? He banned the personal possession of all weapons so people couldn't stand against his government. We have to have guns to protect ourselves FROM oppressive, overbearing governments, not just 'outlaws' as you'd call it. And yes, an overwhelming majority of crimes, including murders, committed in this country are with illegal and unregistered firearms. "Oh but those innocent people wouldn't have died if we took away everyone's guns". That is ideological, anti-gun bullshit. If someone wants to murder someone, they will find a way, whether it be knife, or baseball bat, or car, or even poison. And the police can't be everywhere at once, especially in urban centers. If someone breaks into your house with the attempt to hurt your family, rape your daughters or wives, or another malevolent intent, chances are the police won't be able to get there in time to save you. That's if you even HAD the time to call the police with a criminal in your house. Hell, they might even be in the next room! What the hell are you going to do then? This is a country of freedoms and we DESERVE the right to own firearms to defend ourselves from those who don't follow the laws of this great land. People like you disgust me with your 'regulate regulate regulate' attitude. If more people had guns, there would be less crime. Who would even THINK about breaking into a home if they thought there might be someone inside with a gun? While I appreciate your service to this country, you, sir, are a complete fool.
