im not to familiar with alot of army stuff by name but have my own little collection of gear i just picked up a vest today at the "swap meet" or flea market for $20

i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this vest
in the inside it says a bunch of stuff but mainly "Body Armour, Fragmentation Protective Vest. Ground Troops"
is this semi bullet proof? does it contain Kevlar?? the guy said it was a Flak Jacket..

looks kinda old or well worn ill get a picture up later if ya need it just thought id ask ya guys..

im young still give me a break lol

How heavy is it. Most older flak vests weigh around 20 lbs and are nothing move than steel plates.

If it's Kevlar, there is a shelf life. Make sure if you actually use it for protection, that it's still usable.

lol i think i found what i have

this is the exact vest i got.. same tag and size also it says it should weigh 9 lbs for this size.. it is a bit beat up but for the price im happy..

It's body armor but I wouldn't take on a SWAT team with it.

The only way its not is if It has pouches on the front and back that are completely empty where a nice plate would fit. Then its just a fancy shirt without the plates.

does the second site sell to civilians?

That vest is crap; ( Sorry to break it to ya. It's what the US army used before we had IBA(Interceptor Body Armor) Its meant for shrapnel more than anything. It MAY stop 9mm rounds and below but that would be some wishful thinking.

BOt, is correct. The vest was designed around the concept for the airborne soldiers. Back in the day during WWII and some areas of Vietnam, and in Bagdad city, Flack guns were the main attack against Airplanes. A portion of Soldiers were injured before they even had a chance of dropping out of the plane. So conceptually it is used for gear that was designed for the cold war. As was 99% of the military gear before the upgrade that came in 2006-2007. Even the HHMVV( Hummer) was in its own right was thought to be an excellent All-terrain vehicle, so it was never initially intended for desert combat. The Snorkel on the HHMVV acts like a giant vacuum for the powder fine sand in the Middle East.

Anyways, I'm off subject, I would recommend buying another vest, you lose a lot of maneuverability with that vest, but it is a nice Novelty item.
