I didn't see where Chuck posted the picture of it being built so I'll add everything here. Mind you, the final picture was taken with my phone with no flash, so it's not the greatest, but at least you can see the final product.

Yeah, it's carpeted on the underside of the boxes or sleeping areas too. Chuck did a great job cutting the carpet and folding it over. The center pieces of the boxes are pull out squares of carpet that can be replaced as needed. Thanks again for all of your work Chuck.

He PM'd the before pics. That turned out sweet. Nice job.

Did using 3/4" ply. make it easier to get the carpeting on?

Arturo, yes that is 3/4" plywood for the base. It makes it very sturdy, and I never have to worry about it tipping over when the cat's on top.

Nice... I thought the first picture was the only one I was confused ;) lol

The first is the base. We cut a matching pair and glued/screwed them together so the base would be heavy enough to keep it from tipping considering how off center the top is. Arturo, we used plywood for strength at joints and ease of cutting. 3/4" was a bit overkill, but it makes for great joints and that was the problem with his old one. As far as the carpet, the plywood made stapling a bitch (use a heavy duty one) but a hot glue gone would make all the carpet seams smooth. All that said, give me a wall unit or piece of furniture to build anytime. . . .

thx again u guys for putting this up. good point about weighting the base. ill post it when im done.

I look forward to see what you do with yours. This one is just a little over 42" high, and obviously we used squares for the sleeping areas, but I'm sure you've seen the rounded ones too. I had one similar to this that I bought 9 years ago and replaced the carpet on, but it was showing its age. I've attached a photo of the original one I bought instead of making.

Okay, I had to update this with real pictures taken from my camera.

She is loving it; in fact the only time she's not on it is at night when she's in bed with me and the Mrs. I'm sure that in the Summertime there'll be no getting her off of the condo.

Woa, nice kitty Six, just one? We built one of those condos too, a while ago, but it is rather more complex. Ill take pix...spent shitload of $$$ on mats, but it still a lot cheaper then buy one from the store, plus they dont have anything as elaborate and fun. Gotta love those kitties!!!

Killa, I look forward to seeing your pics. Yeah, we just have the one, she likes being the only cat and she's 15 and set in her ways. And you're right, it's considerably cheaper making your own versus buying one, especially if you want an elaborate setup. We just bought carpet and cut sections for the mats that way we can just lift them up, toss them out, and replace them with a new cut of carpet.

Oh, if you're interested, she's a Manx. She looks funny as hell when running due to the long back legs and shorter front ones. She's goes like hell uphill and down though!

Damn, I guess it's time to get to work-one for you and one for your sister.
