EVGA X58 SLI 758 MB

I recently RMAd this board which needed the cpu socket replaced. The cpu socket was replaced and the board returned. Now the motherboard will not boot to bios when the power is turned on the post code goes straight to FF and does not change.

I made sure I only had 1 stick of RAM installed in DIMM slot 5, and only the cpu, the MB power and CPU power connector were in place, as well as the cpu fan. The post code again went to FF and stayed there. I have reset the CMOS and also removed the CMOS battery for 20 minutes, pressed the CMOS reset button, connected the power and turned it on to get the FF post code again.

I have reseated the cpu, checking the alignment of the cpu and tested my power supply. The power supply showed 12v for the cpu power connector and no errors with the 24 pin MB power connector. I even connected a spare power supply I have and still get the FF post codes and nothing else.

As I do not have anything connected and can not get past this FF post code what should I do next? I"m stuck with this not booting to the bios.

I'm a robot, lulz.

But... try a few of the suggestions. They have suggestions on stuff like pressing on the bios chip (lulzy) and so forth. Maybe you can like jerk off on it and then wipe it off and see if it works if all else fails?
^^^ customer support suggestion EPIC WIN

Also, you said you tried with 1 dimm. Try with another stick (not another slot, another stick of ram).

I've tried all of their FAQ's and the video on the FF post code one EVGA's site. I tried pushing the bios chip, but not jerking off on it though that would probably fix it at this point.

I tried it in and out of the case, with different sticks of RAM, with no RAM, and just bare bones-cpu and ram only. I tried all of the suggestions from EVGA tech support and none of them worked...the fuckers.

Anyway, I put my computer back together with my other MB and at least it's running smooth. All the RAM is fine, I've checked it after booting up. WTF is with the other MB I have no idea...maybe a corrupt bios chip? Either way I'll RMA the fucker again and tell them to get me another one. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Yeah, it sounds like you've done probably beyond what many people would even bother doing, so it wouldn't hurt to jerk off on it (make sure you get some into the CPU socket holes), perhaps smear it a bit for artistic impression, and then send it back to EVGA with compliments.

Well, they wanted me to RMA this thing again and I'm tired of waiting for shit that comes back fucked up so I asked for them to ship me a bios chip replacement instead. I'll change the fucker out, if they send it, and hopefully that will be the end of that problem.

I called EVGA and explained the problem, and they asked me to send them a couple of pictures of the cpu socket. They think it's either bent pins-again or a bad bios. I vote in favor of the bios. Either way they offered to pay for cross-shipping me a replacement after they review the pictures I sent.

That's awfully nice of them. Most companies wouldn't even think twice about doing that, unfortunately. Glad to see EVGA is putting quality first in this case; lets hope whatever is wrong is fixed :).

Yeah, I spoke to one of their had support techs and he seemed to think it was a problem with the cpu socket replacement and since they, obviously, did the replacement that EVGA would take care of the problem by cross-shipping me a replacement.

Yes they do but the Step up program is only available for the first 90 days after your purchase. In this case it would have been $160.00 to step up to the classified which has had problems with the SB chipset and fan and does not allow crossfire so I did not do that. Still, it has a lifetime warranty. Oh, check out this pic and see what you think of the cpu socket. I don't know what the fuck that spot is on the bottom left.

Picture is kinda blurry... could it be a broken CPU pin stuck in there!? 0_0

I have no idea. Looked at from the side, it looks no different than any other pin, but from the top that's what you get. Damn that auto-focus to hell!

Some AMD processors (like mine I think) had a couple of pinholes filled in (they were meant to be that way) so maybe your socket does too...

I'd look into it though. just look up pics of your socket type on the net and see.

Looking at other cpu sockets for the lga 1366 I have not seen one photo that shows anything like this. WTF it is, I don't know, but it doesn't look like any other cpu socket I've seen for this procesor yet, either in person or from photos on the web.

Yup. The cpu socket looked like this before put my cpu in there and I am using the cpu on another mother board right now.

I would have RMA'd who knows what long term problems you "might" have. I know it waiting for an RMA is like Fast raking your shaft with his teeth; but, a brand new board is a lot better than a board with known issues.
