I swear I am not bored. So the full story is a potential redesign of my house would eliminate the living room desk setup and I had 2 ideas for solutions. This is one of them.

This is the third draft, rendered in a random scene I grabbed from the internet. Changed from a single surface with a convoluted monitor mount. To a split top design. What remains is the much hated front glass gap intake setup with the front side mount radiator exhaust.

Looks like an uncomfortable sitting position.
Is there any comfortable sitting position using a computer on a couch? It's unrealistic to get a lift top coffee table surface any closer to the couch without over engineering the hinges.

Wireless mouse and keyboard. Use one of those Laptop tables for them and boom! Put your feet up and frag away!

No. Just making an observation. I've been down this rabbit hole a bunch of times. I don't design furniture but I always dreamed about playing pc games on a couch on a huge screen. I've even tried lap tables and other things, but it never works out. For me, I use a keyboard and mouse and have to sit up straight. Those things never come together in the living room. You would have to design a couch segment that has back support to go with it.

If you use a controller for your games, then it works because you can sit back, but then you're really just playing a console and can use an Xbox or something, and your big screen TV.

The idea here is the exact opposite of anything involving a TV. In my old house we had the gaming rigs in the bedroom, next to the TV. This house is too small so they went in the living room. If we move the kitchen door way to make the house work better it literally means no gaming rigs on a desk anywhere in the house. If you game on the TV then no one can watch TV.

I use a laptop on a TV tray when away from the desk. I believe it is essentially the same position as this puts you in. It's not for people with back problems that is for sure.

The best idea I have heard so far was putting concealed wheels on it. My original and alternate idea is a end table like setup where the monitor comes straight up and turns and then a flip out and over surface. For balance it will have to have a supporting foot that goes under the couch. The Monitor arm probably isn't crazy or complicated. But I didn't think it was the most realistic build.

I technically don't design furniture. My job just often requires me to make shit out of a pile of parts lol

pretty awesome design.. no joke. i like it. but i think im on the same boat about sitting position. maybe placing a seat in front of it when in use would be fine i guess, but design wise its beautiful. I would go as far as placing and hdmi cable to the living room tv, or wireless hdmi. and moving the table all the way to the couch to be able to sit on the couch. with some adjustable rail slides on the table with the keyboard and mouse.

Who wants to watch tv while you're gaming?

And by the way, I am in NO WAY trying to shoot down your creativity.

Not always gaming. Which is one of the reasons going down to 1 monitor would wuck. I'm using 3/4 right now. I have 2 27 inch. One of which is typically TV. Programming, video editing, designing, etc. Wont be any worse than doing it on a laptop. I mostly use a single 30 inch for work.

Autistic screaching intensifies, I typically only watch TV while doing something else. Keeps me focused. Saves time. Unlike my wife I can absorb more than one visual or audible source of information at one time.

Picture my stepson took when he stole my phone. Looks like I was reviewing security footage while watching VinWIKI. This is the exact spot in the living room I would like the kitchen and backroom doorways moved. It would make the kitchen so much better and change the flow of the house so people arent walking in front of the TV.

I'm still drawing the house. It takes awhile to get to a level I can use for photoreal.

Just a though, but could you change the intake to come through the bottom of the unit to get rid of the air gap? Not sure I can see all the detail and if that would even be possible but most of my power supplies currently pull from the bottom. Nice pic btw..... LOL.
