Gaming Phone

Mind Blowing... fuck no. Not in this reality or another. It's definitely tuned correctly for its market. The dock has advantages over the competition. The high storage offering is cool. The only way this thing is worth a damn over it's non gaming competition is if the cooling works as well as they claim. Otherwise you have a phone that's specs might make it relevant 6 months longer than other offerings.

It's also worth noting that any specialty market in Android has never lasted. Tablets are an all but dead market, something that has had several opportunities to prevent a device like the Switch coming to market with great success. Game support being divided GPU wise didn't help. Unless games really step up to drive the demand in specifically tuned phones...

ASUS definitely has its place in the phone market and its fans. Still 40% sure the second RoG phone will be the last.

Reminds me of the functionality for the failed Ubunutu phone a few years back. Still impressive in my mind.

Depends on the OS for me. I pay off my S7 next month so I am in the market for a new phone. This one is interesting but does it beat the S8? Idk yet

Well its in S9 territory so lets hope so lol. Why would you be looking at the S8? Looking to buy outright this time or just keep the payment low? I am personally never buying a curved screen phone again. All the good screen protectors are expensive and all the cheap ones have flaws. No case covers the edges because you have to be able to use it. You really want a glass screen protector on a curved edge phone. Otherwise there isn't even a point to having a case on it.

Ah my bad I misremembered which phone is out for Samsung. S9 is correct. Well the aesthetic of the current Samsung line is a positive and I do have a pair of wired headphones that I would want to get a use out of without a dongle. The top competitors in the space are Samsung, Google, and Apple but Samsung checks my hardware requirements. I have yet to do major research in the other brands though. I usually do about a week's research before choosing a phone anyways.

The S9/S9+ is going to have 2GB less ram and may have less storage depending on which one you pick. You won't really notice a difference in the screen resolution. By default Samsung selects around the same res as ASUS's less res screen uses anyways. For the same reason. I have mine cranked full time to native res though. If you aren't using a dock or gaming accessories the final thing is ASUS supposedly designed better cooling. Honestly have to assume their heat sink comparison is it versus a piece of american cheese sandwiched against a plastic back plate. But who knows. Linus got good results out of replacing the thermal paste in Razer's offering with that liquid metal shit. The results of which was a phone that barely had any difference between a cold and a hot run benchmark. If ASUS is claiming to have a miracle, I have to be skeptical.

At the moment this ASUS phone is the only one to even get me interested in something other than Samsung at the moment. The other gaming phones aren't impressive and I just don't like the Pixel 2 as much as the S9s. I will wait for Linus to get a grab of it.

I have the pixel 2. Best phone ive ever used. Fast, efficient, and great picture quality. Works great with Google assistant (ok Google) and no bloatware.

hmmm my father just got it. Next time I see him I will go thru the phone. It's definitely on my radar.
