Windows 8 RTM 90 day trial avail, start menu completely gone, windows key = metro

Whatever you do.. DO NOT install Win 8. You might as well install Vista.

So many Vista haters lol. Windows 6.1 is the best they all claim. Yeah all Vista needed was a patch but since u cant erase peoples memory 7 cough 6.1 cough was born.

Shit 8 makes Vista look good. 8 makes mac osx look good. My world is shatered.

Wow, 8 makes OSX look good in your opinion? That is a pretty hardcore thing to say. I will have to agree with you on that note ^_^

Sano its an extreme thing to say as a Samsung customer that despises Apple more and more everday.

At least i already know Apple is trying to rape me. I figure it this way, Id rather middle OS X and BSD unix than to go straight linux without access to high end software thats generally Windows or Mac only.

Wine wont run Metro apps tomorrow and Microsoft is trying to force desktop app development to stop. Metro has requirements that are hard to adapt existing code to. In all eventuality companies will play Microsofts game to make customers happy.

I think Linux is going to become more popular over the next few years.

It's a shit/non-shit cycle. 95->98SE(although 95 was not bad at all), ME->XP(and 2000), Vista->7, Metro->Something non-shit.

It's just time for a shitty version ^.^

they said linux will be more popular over the last 1,000,000,000 years..... and loook where we are at....windows 8

Hmm... well, if they pump out 8's replacement like they pumped out 8 to try and replace 7 then hopefully whatever replaces 8 will not suck (if you follow the cycle of suck and non-suck)

Linux sounds cool, but they have to do a LOT of work to get the performance and driver support up to the levels needed for real popularity imo. Sure, there are nvidia/ati drivers... but from what I've heard the performance is abysmal. Also, no directX/live(easy porting from xbox), etc. etc. etc. It's going to be a LONG road if it ever becomes a viable gaming alternative imo.

Most of the shit versions were due to performance and bugs. Not due to features removed from code due to wishes written in stone and passed down to the developers.

Windows 8 will be shit due to the new UI and removal of everything except the ability to run legacy applications. Windows 9 will be the same or worse in regards to how things used to be.

Idk, to be honest I'm not gonna pass a verdict on it until I've tried it for a little while. Looks like shit, and I actually liked the start menu the way it was in win95 best, but meh... IMO we don't need evolution there. But who knows...

Microsoft is right in thinking that the future is convergence though. There won't be a "phone" and a "pc" and a "laptop" in the future. There will just be a "device." So I think they want to offer an operating system which is also unified across devices - think about the same OS in your car dash, in your phone, on your fridge, in your console, in your school tablet/laptop, and on a high-end workstation/gaming pc... That's their vision imo. And they're trying to do an interface that works for every situation.

I don't blame them. What I hate about windows is that they're trying to integrate shit too much. I don't want apps with my OS - I'll get apps if I need them. What they should be doing is making their OS easily extensible so we can get apps if we need them, instead of doing stupid shit like photo browsing and twitter...

If you want to give Win 8 its fair chance by testing it out yourself, go for it. Do it on a HDD that isn't your primary though, otherwise you'll end up having to redo your OS because there is no revert feature.

Sano just run it in a Virtual Machine :p

Ohhhhhh yeah! Haha, completely forgot about doing a VM with Win 8.

I had only minor issues in testing, which might have been caused by the VM. But I was running within VirtualBox with no problems stopping me from evaluating everything except gaming. Mostly had to click on things twice like starting the desktop or xbox games the first time i did them.
