I apologize if this isn't right place to post this, but I didn't see a hardware forum.

I'm considering upgrading my monitor and video card so I can can game at 4K, but wanting to know what other peoples experiences were first. I current game at 2K using a ASUS GeForce GTX 780 Ti and HP ZR30w 30" Widescreen LCD Display (2560 x 1600) and I'm getting an average of 75 FPS in Battlefield 4 with all settings maxed out.

Below is a list of the video components I'm considering... thoughts or suggestions?

Samsung 34" Ultra-wide Curved Screen Monitor (3440x1440)

ASUS STRIX GTX 980 Ti

Datacolor Spyder5PRO

Below are the spec's for my rig:

HP Z620 Workstation, See: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04111175.pdf
Intel Xeon Processor E5-1650 6 Core 3.50GHz

Icy Dock ToughArmor MB994IPO-3SB 2.5" Cage
2 x Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (RAID 0)
ASUS GeForce GTX 780 Ti
HP ZR30w 30" Widescreen LCD Display (2560 x 1600)
Creative Recon3D PCIe Audio Card
800W 90% Efficient Power Supply
Logitech G510s Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard
Corsair Vengeance M65 Gaming Mouse
Corsair Vengeance MM200 Gaming Mouse Mat

Thanks

This is the right place to talk about Tech related things. I don't think anyone really plays 4k here. Most of us are 1080/1440 144hz users. I would like to run 4K for gaming, but I'm not going to bother until the hardware is out that can run 4k at a solid 60-100 FPS min.

Panel Quality and Refresh Rate aren't there yet for me.
HDMI 1.4a spec only does 30Hz HDMI 2.0 60Hz... Display Port going to 60Hz
I'm not going to drop the $$$ on something that can't do 120Hz / 144HZ yet

Wait... what? It's almost 2016 and no one here is gaming at 4K? And you call yourselves true games (just joking)

I'm playing 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz, and it's fine.

As stated, the the things we want for 4k gaming aren't on the market-144mhz refresh rate with a 4k screen and low latency...don't exist. Also, I'm still waiting for the AMD and Nvidia to step up and produce a card that will actually run 4k at 100fps. Right now, as you see with your frame rates, it takes multiple video cards to get what I consider acceptable frame rates at 4k.

Also you can't run triple 4k yet. Gpu's can't handle it. Give it another couple of generations and 4k will be the norm.

1440p looks perfect. A lot better than 4k for gaming. Until there are single gpus that can handle 4k at 120 plus hz, no thanks

Don't forget in 1 year you said this:
I'm playing 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz, and it's fine.

I sit 18 inches from my gaming monitor.. which is 1080@120
In online shooters, all i care about is FPS and smoothness.
Paying money to upgrade to 4k is a joke to me as I will not be swayed by corporate America's controlled obsolence pressures.

Then again...I'm weird
I don't even own a TV.

Besides... I think 4k vs 1080p or 1440p would only be noticeable with huge screens and not so much computer monitors.. the lackluster performance for a slightly better looking screenshot just isn't worth it.

PERFECTLY well said.
These companies are GREAT, at making you think you need new stuff.
To give an example my last vid card was GTX260
Now, I have 770.

It was not easy, watching my friends pass me up with their 460's..then their 570ti's..then their 670's
Then again.. they bought FOUR video cards at 279$ a pop.. all for what?

No vid card helps you aim, and if you ignored the mini-map at 1080p, your gonna ignore it at 16000x9000 @ 70k too!
I'll keep my money.

thinking of building up a new rig at the end of this year for 2k @ 144hz.

4k, as much as I want it, and as good as it looks, just can't justify the $$$

Here's a list of new G-Sync monitors coming out soon:

Model Resolution Size Panel Refresh
Asus PG279Q 2560x1440 27 IPS 144 Hz
Acer Z35 2560x1080 35 VA 144 Hz
Acer X34 3400x1440 34 IPS 75 Hz
Asus PG34Q 3400x1440 34 IPS 60 Hz
Acer XB271HK 4K 27 IPS 60 Hz
Acer XB281HK 4K 28 TN 60 Hz
Asus PG27AQ 4K 27 IPS 60 Hz

Graphics card's arent there yet either. If your gaming at 4k and decent settings above 60hz is the last thing you will be worried about lol.

I was wondering if a 970 can run 4k and if any one has a monitor than recommend.
