I was at work last night and they asked me if I wanted the old back office computer. I said hell yeah. It has a Core 2 Duo E6550 atm and the board supports all the way up to the Core 2 Quad Q9550 so I am thinking of picking up a Q9300 for like 100 bucks or something. PSU, RAM drop a single gpu in it will hold me over for awhile. Drop 250 to 300 into it and use it for a year or so.

So who has some DDR2 laying around? It has 2GB of 666 but it seems the board supports 800 Mhz so looking for 4gb of DDR2 800 for cheap?

I need a decent single GPU I am not sure that the 5670 that malsor has will really do it for me I need something more.

Plenty of cpu's on ebay but if you have a core 2 quad laying around good to know as well.

Bump, other than a PM about an i7 someone said they had available this route is still on.

So DDR2-800 in a quantity of 4GB for cheap I will settle for 2x1GB from one person and 2x1GB from another as enough ram is better than not enough though consistent memory timing would be minimally nice.

Need advice on cheaping out for the video card. I agree with Eurphucts advice on taking the GTX 460 over the 550Ti but the price on the GTX 460 isnt what he thinks it is across the board and the probability of getting a second one new later is slim. So cheaping out was looking at the GTX 260 versus the 5770 it seems like the 260 did better and mind you i cant say i care about dx11 its a nicety as for used im still open to anyone who has something and will be willing to hang onto it for about a month longer.

I have 7 on the machine updating as we speak just to make sure the board is good and to update the bios for the cpu swap.

Cards to consider:

GeForce GTX 460 768MB
GeForce GTX 460 1GB
GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 1GB
Radeon HD 6790
