Dayz Standalone sales skyrocketing

Even though it’s still in an early Alpha state, the DayZ Standalone is doing great in terms of sales. It seems that the warnings issued by lead developer Dean “Rocket” Hall or Bohemia Interactive officials haven’t deterred fans of the survival shooter.

Recent data shows that over 730,000 copies of the game were sold since the release of the alpha version occurred on the 16th of December. The game was listed on Steam for £20 / $29.99, and even though it’s far from polished, it’s doing great financially. 400,000 copies alone were sold in the first week of release, and the sales don’t seem to be slowing down too much. The game is receiving some well deserved press attention now, and that only goes to help the game sell even better.

Even though it’s a far from polished or finished product, the income generated by this huge success should greatly help Rocket’s development team. They now have the financial means to expand the dev team and progress at a much faster pace. Considering that even with the holidays, we’ve still had 3 patches deployed already, things are looking great indeed. And it shows, considering that over 40.000 players have been concurrently online in DayZ at peak hours. DayZ is currently occupying a steady place in Steam’s most played games top, with few titles, such as Dota 2, surpassing it.

Still, we’re constantly reminded that the game is in an alpha state. ”We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.” is the message promoted by Bohemia Interactive, and it’s justified. There are still many things that are not implemented or not working well. That being said, the appeal of the game is there, should you give it a chance.
