I'm trying to buy an Intel Core i7-3770k OR AMD Ryzen 7 1700x or 2700x without breaking the bank.

Yes the i7 is older but I'm building a linux gaming machine and I want to buy stuff that isn't too expensive because I'm a broke ass bitch. ;)

Also..some weird obsession of mine. I want an i7 or HIGHER end AMD CPU.

I'd even be down for an FX-8350 if anyone has one layin' around. I can offer like $90 for an 8350.

Yeah, the 2700x ones used are on Ebay for about $175-$185 right now and that's going to drop when the new ones hit real soon. Everybody always wants to dump the old stuff and if you're patient and bid last minute you can get some great deals....that works for anything.

I even had a guitar I bought a few years ago that was selling for $850 used and found one nobody bid on with a minimum bid for $400. I got that guitar for $410, kept if for a couple years and sold it $850 on ebay lol.

I have a 3930k and 32 gigs of ram sitting doing nothing, and a 1060 6gig vid card

A Ryzen 3300X would murder the 8350 for just a little more money. There are only 2 situations where FX makes any sense. You already have it, or someone sold it to you for $25 lol. I picked up an entire FX-6100 machine in an NZXT Phantom for $100 2 years ago the case and the 512GB SSD being 100% of the value and the board, cpu and ram eventually went on to be sold for like $30.

You already picked everything up so none of this matters. FX was just that bad.
 
its too late now. but there is a MASSIVE difference between the FX series and ryzen, def worth the extra $70 over what you paid.

i think @St. Ides is using a FX8350? and he couldnt even play on our servers when we bumped up the tickrate to 90hz. solely bc of his cpu. just something to be aware of with the FX series in general

There were some other factors that were at play, but essentially yeah the CPU bottle necks on the higher tickrates. Was seeing the cpu usage at 97-100% and the whole system would crash....I was suffering from cpu degradation(most likely from the steady OC of 4.5ghz I set back in 2012) without the OC its handling things a little better, also have to kill any other program that wants to use more than 4% of the CPU or it starts getting gnarly
