G-Sync VS FreeSync

Good day guys,

I'm looking at 2K monitors since I might buy one soon but I am not sure to fully understand if choosing G-Sync VS FreeSync really makes a difference. My original thoughts was that if you have a Geforce GPU you should go with G-Sync and if AMD GPU you should go FreeSync. Does that make sens or it absolutely doesn't matter? There are a lot of good FreeSync monitors well rated but always cheaper than a G-Sync monitors and I am not sure to understand why.
 
I have my G-Sync turned off. I just got this one a few months ago (below). It seems laggy with it turned on. May just be me however. My rid is currently only capable of getting 70 to 90 fps on BF1 but can get up to 170 fps on BF4.

Initially, G-Sync would not work with another game I was playing so I turned it off then. I seemed to be ok with it that way. (Shroud of the Avatar - which is now officially released)

G-sync had problems with the 380 series of drivers, this got resovled with the 390 series...thankfully. Also, don't forget to enable G-sync for windowed mode AND full screen mode.
 
As far as I know you can't mix and match between the two technologies. Make sure you choose G-sync for Nvidia cards and Freesync for AMD cards.

It also explains why G-Sync monitors cost more. Hope it helps, but the short version is that you want to match the technology of your video card as @Howitzer pointed out.

It's a shame, really. AMD has the better, IMO, and free solution but NVidia makes the best performing cards.
Either way, if get an Freesync monitor with an NVidia or vice versa, the monitor still works just fine. The only thing it WILL NOT do is use the Freesync or Gsync feature if the card does not match the monitor's tech solution.
 
Turned G-Sync back on yesterday without a hickup. If I look with love.. it is a little smoother. But not dramatic.
