Was talking with @cplmac about his phone dying at 80% and I was like you probably have a swollen battery and sure enough. I was going to PM him a pic or 2 of some bad cases but hell lets make a thread.

Some people don't understand my hatred of phones that don't open. Personally when a battery catches on fire I prefer to be able to dump it out of the window without the rest of the phone attached... just sayin.

wholly fuck! A battery that doesnt separate from the phone seems to me a serious safety hazard! especially in california
 
All Nokia Lumia phones have batteries which don't separate. Well, they do but you have to unscrew the phone and it's not designed for the end customer to do...

I guess they're designed with fairly finite lives... which makes sense. And in most cases, unless manufactured faulty, batteries won't bulge over time.
