Re-installing Windows 7, etc

I don't know if it's mentioned in any of those guides because I'm too lazy to look but ninite.com may be the single greatest asset to anyone doing an install of an OS.

You pick and choose what pieces of software you want installed (Chrome, Firefox, Stream, WinRar, 7Zip, different media players, flash, etc.) And it creates a single installer. Just click the installer and let it do its thing. It saves probably an hour and a half of installation time.
