Razer just put a piece of coal in gamers' Christmas stockings with news that its hotly-anticipated Tiamat 7.1 surround sound headset has been delayed. Originally expected in Q4, its new release date is sometime in January. To recap, $180 will get you an unusual five drivers in each ear, including three dedicated left and right ones, along with a subwoofer and "center" channel on each side. There's the obligatory mic, along with an inline control that lets you adjust volume levels for each channel. So, will the extra drivers make much of a difference during your next Modern Warfare 3 firefight? Let us know.

    [Thanks, Zach]

  2. At least they know that things need to be perfect before they are released :).... EA?? hahah

  3. LOL EA yeah they do proper testing all right......NOT

On another note these cans look impressive. I used to be an audiophile type of person before I lost most of my hearing. The specs on these are very good and I bet with a good amp (soundcard) are very good.

  4. Yeah I agree. Does it tell you the frequency response of each speakers and the cut offs from when the bass is taken over by treble? How many drivers in each speaker?

  5. Does not give frequency response of the drivers (speakers for you non audio people), but I really did not look too close. I bet if I did some digging I could find that out. It does say the number of drivers in each can. Whether or not they can be controlled independently is not known to me either although would be a feature I would look for in a 7.1 device.

    2 Subwoofer Drivers
    40mm. Ti coated diaphragm
    Frequency Response: 20Hz – 20,000 Hz
    Impedance: 16Ω
    Sensitivity: 116 dB @ 1kHz

    2 Side Surround Drivers
    20mm.
    Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
    Impedance: 32 Ω
    Sensitivity: 123dB @ 1kHz

    2 Front Drivers
    30mm. CCAW Voice Coil
    Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
    Impedance: 24 Ω
    Sensitivity: 125dB @ 1kHz

    2 Back Surround Drivers
    20mm.
    Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
    Impedance: 32 Ω
    Sensitivity: 123dB @ 1kHz

    2 Center Drivers
    30mm. CCAW Voice Coil
    Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
    Impedance: 24 Ω
    Sensitivity: 125dB @ 1kHz

Is it me or is that just 5.1?

  7. The old 20 to 20 rating lol. Besides the fact that most of the drivers will not actually produce sound at some of the lower frequencies its still specified as it might cause movement.

Nah Mario its more like 7.2 IF the subs support stereo. The center drivers count as 1 since the headset has to have separates. If the Sub channel is the same data is 7.1 if its stereo its 7.2.

    So 2 back + 2 side + 2 front = 6 + center = 7 + Sub = 7.1. Remember 5.1 has no side speakers its Front 2, Back 2, Center and Sub.

Would love to try out a set but no way would I pay $180 for a headset which probably is not much better than the pair I have for $79. Bob how about a post-Chirstmas present. :)

  10. Damn it when did I become your sugar daddy? Have to check that list of mine. lol
I'm sure there are stores that have these as displays that could be tested.
