But what about the clicky vs. smooth scroll wheel? I don't like the clicky setting (too clicky) but the smooth is definitely a "hell no".

yea the smooth is really annoying, the click is great, just one click and your pulling out a different gun. really dont mind any thing at all with this mouse, it will take time to get used to.. i had a razer death ader before i had to get this mouse and it took a while to get the feel of the mouse, im not sure how different the g3 is from the g500, but the razer death ader was way different took me at least a full day of playing to get the feel of the mouse. for me it is really sensitive so i had to reset some of my controls in game.
Its not meant for gaming use in that manner. It is also not meant to stay in free wheel mode. Though the fact they put the switch on the bottom of the G9x was purely idiotic. The G700 is manual but my old MX Revolution switched automatically based on how fast you were scrolling.
It is literally a feature meant for scrolling through a 1,000 page PDF.

I agree...the wheel is far too clicky. Should definitely be more subtle. Scrolling is really obnoxious now.
The wheel on the G5 is much better.
Overall though I still like the mouse a lot.
I've had the G3, MX 518 and the G500. I use the G500 now and I like it fine. You will have to get used to it like all new toys but I think you will grow to be very satisfied with the mouse. The problem I have most is when I use the Wheel-Click as the Melee because I tend to roll it and bring up the medic kit or something. Very annoying. Good luck.
