If the resolution you were using in XP is not available in Vista, or your monitor doesn't display anything if plugged in via DVI as opposed to HDMI, or is otherwise acting up (i.e. doesn't display certain resolutions etc.) you might have a corrupt EDID chip.

It's the chip in the monitor which stores information about resolutions supported, timings etc. and it's actually update-able via a normal VGA/DVI/HDMI cable.

This specific thread is about the Westinghouse LVM-37W3SE TV/Monitor specifically, but you might find the information highly useful in resolving problems with other monitors as well.

I had a corrupt EDID on the DVI port on my Westinghouse LVM-37W3SE that I just bought last week which is now fully working... Last post on the 2nd page of the thread is mine about the experience ;-)

I spent some time going through this and typing it up because I thought it might be useful to someone someday...
