Best under $500 laptop?

looking for a laptop for my kid mostly for school work thinking about $500 the one he has now was under $200 but is slow and freezes all the time.

Try to see if you can find a Asus zenbook ux305 from 2015, price hovers around $500, good build quality, full hd screen and comes with a 256gb ssd. Plus decent IO.

RAM and processor will be the key thing.

Once you hit 350 you step into the range of getting a nice i5 and 8GB of ram. $500 should be a decent budget. Most under $300 laptops are dual and quad core Atoms labeled as Celeron or Pentium.
