Looking to get 16GB of DD3 (hopefully on sale during Black Friday) to pair with the following CPU and MOBO.
ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W

Currently working with an older set of DD3 8GB, but want a faster speed & bigger size so that some of my games will run faster. These parts are already in house, but haven't been installed into my system yet. Currently still running an old AM3 Phenom II X6 1050T (won it in a Black Friday contest back in '09 from AMD directly) in another mobo (which has some power issues if all power is cut from it) till I decided on what DDR3 to get.

So, any suggestions would be appreciated. Doesn't matter if it's 4x4 or 8x2 for the memory, as long as they all come in a single set.

You can easily get a great, inexpensive system for less than 500-600. Why not just get DDR4?

Honestly I would question the entire build. The FX-8350 even on the AMD side is shit. I saw a deal to get the 8320 for like $30 after rebates which was tempting but you can never count on those.

It sucks you are in Pittsburg. If you were close to philly you can get an Ryzen 5 1400 for $149 instead. It's faster than the FX-8350. Looking on newegg it's sadly $164 instead. But the funny story is 1500X is also $164 making it the best deal if you spend a few more bucks. It also puts you into a system with a possible upgrade path. The FX based system would have no future.

You might want a new CD Drive for those AOL Trial Internet disks

Piggybacking on Rain’s response, I checked out the memory that’s available for DDR3 for 16 gig kits. As expected the price went up to roughly 120 - 140 dollars. For 30 more, you’d get to the kits for DDR4.

If you’re just replacing the core components (cpu, ram, motherboard) the. I would recommend the Ryzen5 1500x, an MSI B350 motherboard, and a 16 gig kit of DDR4-2400 ram for 376 bucks. I would sell the fx chip and motherboard for what you can get to offset it. Then you'd be future proof on the cpu socket for at least 2 years if not longer.

But that’s my .02

Just thought I would throw this out there:

Newegg has the Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300x our there for 99 and 119 respectively with their Black Friday sales. Both would out perform the current phenom 1050t you’re running. The plus side is s little overclocking on the 1200 would easily meet the 1300x clock speed. Plus you’ll have an upgrade path for Zen+ later on. Again, this is assuming you’ll sell the FX chip and mobo along with your current cpu and mobo.

Just another .02 cents worth.

So, I don't know what's up with NewEgg's link system, but it seems that when you click on the underlying link I have above for the mobo, it's completely different from clicking on the same exact link in my NewEgg CP. Wild. So, just google the name of the mobo if you want to see it.

Anyways, I just decided to pick up a set of 2x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series chips to max out my system to 16GB. They have the same timing as my older G.SKILL Sniper chips, so, I shouldn't have any problems as long as I get a good set. So, hopefully I can put everything thru it's paces this weekend (eta for arrival is Thursday).

Either way, selling the components wasn't a good option at this time for me, since cash is a little tight at the moment. Plus, I can re-purpose some of this towards a possible new desktop system for my mom in the future when I'm completely ready to build a new system from scratch.
