Overview

Overwatch is Blizzards first attempt at a first person shooter and combines the gameplay of TeamFortress 2 with the character selection and abilities you'd find in a MOBA. Unlike TF2 and LoL, all characters in game are currently available to play to all and the only thing you need spend money on are items like character skins, taunts and tags. It's also been noted that "Heroes will be added over time post-launch as free updates." From the start you can play all 21 different characters who have one of four roles, and be on the same level as any one else. Your experience and knowledge of each character will determine how well you can play the game, Not how much money you are willing to drop on new heroes or weapons.

Gamemodes

There are currently four game modes for Overwatch; Escort, Assault, Hybrid and Control. In each game, teams are made up of 6 players on either side. An average match may last between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on the game mode and how well each team competes.

Escort is a Game Mode in which the Attacking team's objective is to move the payload to a delivery point, while the Defenders must halt the Attackers' progress until time runs out.

Assault is a Game Mode in which the Attacking and Defending teams must attempt to take or defend capture points across the map. Both teams battle over control of the map, one team on offense, the other on defense. The attackers' goal is to capture critical objectives, while the defenders must maintain control over them until time runs out.

The only currently available Hybrid Game Mode starts with an Assault and ends with an Escort section. These two parts behave exactly as their stand-alone Game Modes do.

Control maps are where two teams fight over a series of objective areas in a best-of-three format. When a team is in control of the round’s objective area, they will make progress toward capturing it, and whichever team gets to 100% first wins the round. Each round (up to 3 total) will feature a new objective area located in a different part of the map.

Characters

Offense:
Genji
- Genji is a cybernetic ninja, using shuriken and and swords to launch quick and deadly attacks. In a tight pinch, Genji is able to use his swords to deflect projectiles in the direction he's facing.

McCree- Gunslinger and vigilante, McCree makes use of his revolver to slay his foes, flashbangs to stun, and has a combat roll to avoid danger.

Pharah- Pharah is a versatile and mobile Offense hero, capable of limited-duration flight. This gives her good escape capabilities, excellent vantage in open-air situations, and enables her to reach enemy snipers with ease. Her Ultimate ability Barrage allows her to rain heavy damage down on her enemies.

Reaper- Reaper is a deadly assassin that can move like a ghost through the battlefield, dispatching enemies and draining the life from their corpses. He is at his best when ambushing and swiftly silencing targets before slipping back into the shadows.

Soldier:76- Soldier: 76 is the most well-rounded of the Assault heroes. He's able to deal both sustained and burst damage at any range, move quickly across the battlefield, and support both himself and his team through the use of Biotic Field.

Tracer- With a unique ability to control the speed of her own passage through time, Tracer zips and blinks around the battlefield, eluding attackers and sneaking past defenses. A perfect skirmisher hero, Tracer is fragile but hard to hit, keeping one step ahead of her attackers while she harasses and harries the enemy team.

Defense:
Bastion
- Bastion is a hero with two main forms. The first being a somewhat mobile bipedal form with a submachine gun, the second being a completely immobile turret form. His ultimate transforms him into a tank, delivering chaos and devastation to the enemy team.

Hanzo- Hanzo is a medium-range sniper with strong team utility and area denial abilities. The relatively silent and hard-to-see nature of his arrows makes him a stealthier sniper.

Junkrat- A crazed, explosives-obsessed outlaw, Junkrat uses his Frag Launcher to bounce grenades at his enemies, while planting Concussion Mines and Steel Traps to defend targets.

Mei- Mei uses her cyro abilities to launch icicles at her targets, slow them to a crawl and even create large walls of ice to obstruct line of sight and stop enemy movement.

Torbjorn- One of the world's greatest engineers, Torbjörn can swiftly construct and upgrade turrets, producing powerful units capable of defending areas against attackers.

Widowmaker- Widowmaker is the archetypal sniper, grappling up to vantage points and lining up the perfect kill shot. Her sniper rifle and sticky mines make her a strong Defense hero.

Tank:
D.Va
- D.Va’s mech is nimble and powerful — its twin Fusion Cannons blast away with autofire at short range, and she can use its Boosters to barrel over enemies and obstacles, or deflect attacks with her projectile-dismantling Defense Matrix.

Reinhardt- Reinhardt is the sturdiest of the Tanks, boasting high base Health and a massive barrier that allows him to protect his team from harm. While largely defense-oriented, Reinhardt can be a deadly offensive threat as well thanks to the high damage of his Rocket Hammer and ability to crush enemies against a wall with Charge.

Roadhog- Roadhog has a unique Tank playstyle that's focused on singling out vulnerable enemies and yanking them in for the slaughter with his Chain Hook. His Scrap Gun gives him powerful short to medium-range damage, while Take A Breather allows him to remain a persistent threat, even without a friendly Support.

Winston- Winston is one of the game's most mobile Tanks, capable of crossing vast distances in a single leap to bring the fight to his enemies. His Tesla Cannon, combined with the agility provided by his Jump Pack, makes him a persistent menace that can easily disrupt any enemy team through constant harassment and the power of his Primal Rage.

Zarya- Her primary weapon of choice is a particle cannon which can shoot beams and balls of energy, and create shields for herself and her allies. A powerful Tank, Zarya can turn the damage she absorbs into energy to fuel her weapons, dishing out damage as she defends her team.

Support:
Lucio
- Lúcio is a versatile Support that hits a nice middle ground between Zenyatta and Mercy. The passive healing provided by his Crossfade ability enables him to actively contribute damage to a fight with his Sonic Amplifier while still healing his allies, and his higher base health and the knockback of his Sonic Amplifier's secondary fire makes him more survivable than Zenyatta.

Mercy- Mercy is the most healing oriented of the Supports, capable of rapidly bringing her team back up to full Health and even using her Ultimate to bring them back from the dead. When not healing, she is able to boost a single ally's damage, allowing them to blast apart foes and tear through barriers.

Symmerta- Symmetra utilizes her light-bending Photon Projector to dispatch adversaries, shield her associates, construct teleportation pads and deploy particle-blasting Sentry Turrets.

Zenyatta- Zenyatta calls upon orbs of harmony and discord to heal his teammates and weaken his opponents, all while pursuing a transcendent state of immunity to damage.

This is a game that may be out of the comfort zone for those who are used to playing only one title, like Battlefield. Because of this and the current interest in the game from other members, I've come up with a short list of people and a character they may enjoy based off my experience of their playstyle.

Joleb - Genji, because you get off on stabbing people from behind.
Darkness - Junkrat, because you have more C4 kills than all other weapons combined.
Iguanidon - McCree, because bang bang muther-fucka.
Shining - Hanzo, sorry no poison arrows, but it'll do...
Balls and Sixer - Soldier:76 and Pharah.
Fearless - Tracer, because your body is sexy like that.
Avery - Widowmaker, because it's as close to the .50 as you'll get
Mustang - Bastion, because pitching a tent isn't just for humans...
Oporerator - Reaper, because I can't seem to fucking shoot you anyways!
MP - Roadhog, because you seem like the guy who would say "fuck you" and throw a meat hook at someone for fun.
Soulzz - Mei, cause you a bitch.
Konrak - Winston, because you scary bro.

I like the list you made down there, you could add a section for TBG friends like @MEX_cuz_I_CAN to it, he is not admin but he does hang around with us a lot :) MEXcuzICAN#11690

Added. I didn't see his name in the thread. I know there are a few others out there with bnet accounts but I'm waiting for others to volunteer their ID's to the public before I share that information. We may have a lot of "regulars" who aren't TBG but hang out and I don't want them to feel left out by any means.

I really do think this is something that a lot of people will enjoy and it's a good way to pass the time till BF1 launches in a few months.

Sheep#1468
Always down for some Overwatch.
I typically get stuck playing Lucio since all pug matches everyone wants to be the one to get the most kills. When not playing Lucio (He's clearly the best support) I play a good amount of Pharah, Roadhog, Hanzo, Reinhardt, and Junkrat.

I've been playing Overwatch since the early days of the beta. Glad now the game is live I really enjoy playing it!

Idk man, I get 15 killstreaks with Mercy.

i played pharrah quite a bit in the beta's then found junkrat towards the end of the open im at 20hrs game play and 20 hours with junkrat. ill switch it up once i get him mastered. i can 1v1 almost all toons with him. but yes i love this game

I like bastion. yesterday I got play of the game 12 times on him. I kept finding the best nooks to hide in and just spry the whole team down. people were so salty lmfao.

Bastion is easy to counter, but it seems like folks don't understand (or believe) that hero swapping is a crucial part of winning a game. Hanzo, Junkrat, and Genji really shut bastion down.

my only problem is genji the rest dont stand a chance

Overwatch will keep you busy for some time...
But that's just me talking being ranked #153 worldwide with Reinhardt...
