Cool Demos and other Demoscene stuff!

For all the geeks (it's probably only me lol but anyway I thought someone else might find this cool), I think I just saw one of the coolest text demos ever yesterday. Most of it is pretty much 3d with a text renderer, but nevertheless it's pretty sweet.

    Check it out:
    http://iki.fi/sol/zip/trm_turing.zip

Make sure to fullscreen it (alt+enter) when it runs for best results 050

If someone is interested I might update this thread with cool demos I find once in a while :-)

I gotta bump this with this new production by Adinpsz called Extatique:
    http://adinpsz.org/data/az-02.zip

If you like goa/psytrance music, you HAVE to watch this.

I recommend that you make sure nobody bothers you (for a few minutes) and that you have good sound for maximum enjoyment :-)

I'm still changing my pants personally...

Re: Cool Demos and Other Demoscene Stuff

Basically, they're "demos." They are made to show off coding ability / be funny / be entertaining / be thoughtful, etc. I personally consider demos an art form. Groups of people code these in their free time and show them off at parties around the world, as well as drink beer, have fun, play games together etc.

After being shown off, they're made available to the general public who can enjoy them on their own computers too. Some groups even release code (usually not though).

Arguably, the best demo ever made (in several respects) is this one:

    http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/...s.zip&fileinfo

Personally, this one might be my all-time favorite, although it's hard to pick:

And... probably the best 4k category demo (who can make the "best" demo in 4096 bytes of code) ever made (so far) is this one:

    http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=%...d.zip&fileinfo

    It's quite astounding.

Stereoscopic noise demo. Pretty cool. I like parallel personally. If you don't know how to adjust your eyesight for stereoscopic 3d side-by-side viewing (either cross-eyed or parallel) look it up.

    It's AMAZING!

    ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/ized/prods/hypnoise2.zip

Edit: P.S. Parallel is easier for me than cross-eyed, but it's all personal :-D .

Breakpoint 2010 is almost upon us, and they released the 4K's for it just today! I'm drooling over them right now :-D

Breakpoint 2010 came and went. It's one of the biggest demoscene parties of the year, along with Assembly (which at the end of the summer I think).

    Anyway, my personal favorite:

    Wir sind Einstein

    http://www.scene.hu/public/uf_dd_wse.zip

    It rocks so much!

A few other must-see demos from the compo:

    Agenda Circling Forth

    ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/breakpoint/...emo/agenda.zip

^^ The winner. 0 polygons (dots only + shadersex). Good video card required. Struggles on a GTX 260 c216, but is slow-motion so it's not bad.

    ----

    fr-043: rove

    ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/ryg/fr-043.zip

Farbrausch does it again. Beautiful music, and I loved the infinite zoomer at the end.

    ----

    Mistrace

    http://www.puryx.dk/scene/bp2010/tbc...race_party.zip

    It's 1K... yeah - jizz.

    ---

    Darwinism

    http://www.gravitysensation.com/darwinism/darwinism.zip

The winner of the 4K compo. 4K walk modelling and physics. It's very stupid, but for 4K it's amazing.

Most "touching" 32k (even 64k) I've seen in quite a while:

    ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/ized/prods/ambience.zip

It eats your shaders for breakfast btw, so if it's slow, try "low quality" or whatever. My GTX 480 choked on high, hard. 100% GPU usage throughout too, so make sure your card is furmark-stable (demo lasts about 3-4 minutes).
